Well Mother Nature played havoc on our weekend plans. Friday racing was cancelled and our plans changed for Saturday three times because of weather forecasts. We wound up going to Hilltop Speedway in Millersburg, OH, in which we had not raced there since 2008. I’ll first start our road trip story. (We almost always have a road trip story) I have a 2005 Dodge Dually that we are towing with this year. We had the truck full of diesel and headed north on I-77. My windows are tinted so I wasn’t real sure, but I thought I was seeing a faint smoke trailing us, but saw no other signs of an issue and just figured the tint was playing tricks on me. But when we got off exit 65 I saw a trail of liquid streaming behind us. So we stopped at the first gas station and sure enough we were leaking diesel. It cost $101 to fill it up. We fixed the leak, only to have it happen again and again and again. The last time it started leaking at the injector pump. We were far enough along that there was no turning back and the mindset we have is to just make it to the track and we’ll worry about getting home later. . .LOL So, now on to the racing part of the story. We got to the track late and we did not get to hot lap, nor did we get to draw a pill for qualifying. We qualified last of 37 cars and took our very first lap on the clock. We set 3rd fast time in which I was really pleased with. We started 4th in the dash and finished 2nd. Made some changes for the feature and they were definitely the right changes. Started 2nd and took the lead on lap 1 and stretched it out. There were a few cautions, but on lap 11 under caution, we got a right rear flat tire. We were allowed to change it and we came back out and tacked the tail of the lead lap cars, which was 10th. We had 9 laps to go and we came back to finish 2nd. VERY HAPPY with the performance of the car and anxious to race it again this coming weekend.
Tim Cooper has set up a Kenny Johnson Racing page on Facebook, so check it out. This weekend we plan to go to 250 Speedway on Friday and K-C Speedway on Saturday, so we hope to see you there.
Remember! To make this work, support those that support us!
Thanks again for your support, KJ
