KJ Motorsports Update #26 Race #50

KJ Motorsports Update #26 Race #50

By: Kenny Johnson
Date: 11-06-13

Saturday we went back to Atomic Speedway in Frankie Hall’s car for the Dan Reno Memorial Race. They had 49 cars show up and we set fast time and also broke our old track record with a 15.31 lap time. This started us 6th in the fast dash. We came to 3rd before losing a driveshaft. We were able to get that fixed and started 6th in the feature. Was up to 3rd and starting to pressure for 2nd when the engine overheated and I pulled into the infield. Had a great car and had a great run going, but luck just wasn’t on our side. I want to thank Frankie for allowing me to drive his car even though he says I scare the heck out of him when I get close to the wall. LOL! Tim and I are going to the dirt track at Charlotte Motor Speedway for the World Finals with Steve Balderson and Candace Hays. Steve is one of our sponsors and has been for quite a while. Our race season is officially over and I want to thank everyone who has helped with the car, everyone of our fans and also everyone of our sponsors. We will be in the garage soon, getting things ready for the 2014 season. If anyone has an interest in sponsoring us, please let me know. Once I have something noteworthy to pass on, I’ll send out an update. Until then, I’ll catch up to ya soon!

KJ Motorsports Update #25 Race #49

KJ Motorsports Update #25 Race #49
By: Kenny Johnson
Date: 10-28-13

Saturday we went to Atomic Speedway with Franky Hall’s ‪#‎28BX‬, where there were 32 modifieds. Coop drew us pill #35 to start us 5th in the 4th heat race. We went on to get the win to start us 4th in the feature behind Fireball Pinkerton. I made a couple of changes to the car in hopes of making it better. Instead I think I made it worse. Fireball took the early lead with Greg Oliver taking 2nd and we had 3rd and Mark Dickson was 4th. That’s how the finish was as well. The change I made, plus the body got into the right rear tire and destroyed a 1/3 of the outside tread took us out of contention for a win. But I want to thank Franky Hall (Hall’s Auto Repair) for allowing us to take his car and run it.

We are planning to return to Atomic Speedway this Saturday for the Dan Reno Memorial race paying $2,222 to win. So we hope to see you there!

This week, I want to give a shout out to Hyperco Springs. I have run them for many years in the modified division and they have always performed and have gotten us many wins. For you racers out there, contact Poske’s Performance Parts @ 304-428-5000 and get yours today! Thanks again for all of your support! I also want to wish Tim Cooper a HAPPY BIRTHDAY (10/27/13). Coop has been with me since 2003 and we have had our highs and lows in racing. But regardless he’s always been there. Hope you had a great birthday brother! Love ya and thanks for your dedication to KJM.

KJ Motorsports Update #24 Race #48

KJ Motorsports Update #24 Race #48
By: Kenny Johnson
Date: 10-25-13

Well, although Mother Nature tried it’s best to dampen our weekend at the Dirt Track World Championship at Portsmouth Raceway Park, we did get to race. 95 modifieds were there and we set 3rd fastest time and our good friend Mikey McPherson set 2nd fast time. We started the pole of our heat and the outside pole setter got the early lead and we settled into 2nd. A caution came out that bunched the field back up. On the restart, the 3rd place car dove in too low and got in the slime, which turned his car right and wound up hitting us and turning us backwards and then got hit again. The car was damaged pretty good and to be honest, I really didn’t think it could be fixed in time to tack the tail of the consi. But Bobby Kitchens and I jumped in on the front suspension and several others jumped in on the back end and sure enough, we got done just in time to tack the tail of the consi in 16th. Now we all know that luck plays a role in racing, whether it’s good or bad luck. We had our bad luck in the heat race, but the consi provided us some good luck. We were running 6th with about 2 to go and they were only taking the top 3. We had 3 restarts with one lap to go and in the end, we were able to pass for 3rd on the last lap to put us in the big show. The car looked horrible, but that didn’t matter because we made it. In the feature we started 26th but before we got one lap in, we started 16th. We passed our way to 10th and were cruising along until I felt a problem with the engine and I shut it down. This DTWC weekend for the past several years has always eluded us from having a good run. We have always proven to be fast and seem to always make new fans, but I have yet to run up front in the feature. Maybe next year will be our year. I want to congratulate our friend Kevin Dulaney who stepped out of his #20 and hired Greg Oliver to drive and they went on to win the $3,000. It was definitely an exciting race to watch! I also want to thank Jarod and Noah Nichols for stopping at my garage and picking up some parts and bringing them down to us at the track! Also want to be sure and thank EVERYONE that jumped in to help get the car ready for the consi. Our KJM season is essentially done for the year, but we are taking Franky Hall’s modified to Atomic this weekend in hopes to pick up win #15 of the year. So we hope to see you there!

This week, I want to give a shout out to John Stephens of Stephens Custom Woodworks. John makes some beautiful items out of wood, from bowls, to lamps, to stands, etc. Visit him on Facebook to see what all he produces.

KJ Motorsports Update #23 Race #47

Update #23 Race #47
By: Kenny Johnson
Date: 10-16-13

There were no races on Friday in our area, so Saturday morning we headed to CoughlinCars.com in Chillicothe and displayed the car for a while and went to Roosters to grab a bite to eat before heading over to the track. Atomic had over 30 modifieds on hand and Pam Lemon drew us pill #33, which Jason Gillian says is a lucky pill. We started 6th in our heat and on the 2nd lap was in 3rd. But I made a huge judgment error and got into Clint Keenan, who was driving Rob Stambaugh’s car. I cause Clint to spin and I slowed down expecting to go to the tail, but they have a no stop rule. I went on to get the win in the heat to start us 3rd in the feature. But I owe Clint and Rob an apology the next time I see them. We started 3rd in the feature and ran behind Brian Whiteman and Craig Christian for the first portion of the race. We finally squeaked by Craig and was working on Brian when Jess Hartman and Chris Stotts started showing their nose on the low side. Chris had actually took the lead on the low side of turn 4, but Brian and I both got by him at the flagstand. That prompted Brian to hold his line down just a bit in turn 2 and I shot to the outside, Brian in the middle and Chris on bottom. By the time we got to turn 3 we took the lead and Chris was 2nd and Jess soon followed for 3rd. Chris and I had a good race and we went on to get win #14 of the season. I forgot to mention that I hit the wall in the heat race which caused for some work to be done. Thankfully, Coop, Tom Lemon, Tommy Powell, Carl McPherson, Rick Hudnell, Jared Nichols & Noah Nichols all jumped in to help get it straightened back out. Thanks to all for the help!

This weekend we are leaving on Wednesday to head down to Portsmouth Raceway Park for the Dirt Track World Championship. This race pays $3,000 to the modifieds and I’d expect anywhere from 75 to 100 mods to be there. So we hope to see you there!

This week, I want to give a shout out to Hoosier Racing Tire. I have been committed to Hoosier for quite some time now and we have gotten a lot of wins on them. Thanks again for all of your support! Remember! To make this work, support those that support us!

KJ Motorsports Update #22 Race #44, #45 & #46

Race #44, #45 & #46
By: Kenny Johnson
Date: 10-7-13

Friday, 9-27-13 we went to Legendary Hilltop Speedway. My niece Katie went with us and she got the honors of drawing my pill. We wound up winning the 3rd heat to start us 3rd in the feature. Andy Bond started outside pole and took the early lead and we quickly jumped into 2nd and then the race was on. Andy & I raced hard side by side as we did a few weeks back, but I could not get him to bobble, too many years of experience for that to happen. It was a great race to be in and a good one for the fans to watch Unfortunately for Andy he had a rule infraction that got him dq’ed and we were awarded the win. But that didn’t take away the race everyone got to see! It’s not often fans get to see 2 drivers go at it as hard as we were and never touch. I’m glad Andy trusts me as a racer!

Saturday, 9-28-13 we went to Skyline for the Harvest 50 where we had 50 mods on hand. We were able to set 2nd fast time to start us on the pole of heat #2. We took the win by nearly a straight a way to start us on the outside pole of the feature beside Jeremy Berwanger. Jeremy took the early lead on the bottom, while I ran the middle. I moved down to the bottom and was able to maintain, but could not put any pressure on Jeremy. Near halfway we got passed for 2nd by the #60 of Ebert and Ebert went on to pass Jeremy for the win. With less than 5 to go, I opted to move to the high side and that allowed Tyler Evans to pass us on the bottom and gave us a 4th place finish.

Friday, 10-4-13 we went to Legendary Hilltop Speedway where I drew my own pill to start us 2nd in the 2nd heat. We got the win to start us on the outside pole of the feature beside Jeremy Blake. We went on to get win #13 of the year.

Saturday, 10-5-13 Mother Nature won out at Atomic Speedway where they had over 30 mods. This weekend, assuming Legendary Hilltop Speedway is closed, we will be going back to Atomic on Saturday. So we hope to see you there!

This week, I want to give a shout out to Keith Emrick at K-Graphics. Keith not only does our decal work, Keith is a great friend. If anyone needs decals work done for anything from political signs, to store front, automobile business signs, magnetic signs, real estate signs, etc. Give Keith a call at 304-428-2685 and tell him you heard about him here.

KJ Motorsports Update #21 Race #43

By: Kenny Johnson
Date: 09-25-13

Friday we went to Legendary Hilltop Speedway for a $1,200 to win race. They had 31 cars and we set fast time with a 14.94. This started us on the pole of heat 1 alongside Terry Hinkle. The high side was the groove to be in and although we seemed to be a tick faster than Terry, we could not make the low side work and we finished 2nd. This started us 5th in the feature and just before going out, Coop reminded me that it was 35 laps. So I just took what the track and car gave me and we ran 5th most of the race and about half way we got in lap traffic. I took advantage of the lap traffic and passed from 5th to 3rd, but caution would send us back to 5th. We did pass for 4th shortly after, but the engine was getting hot and I opted to back out some and we finished 4th. The new car is running well, we just haven’t put it in the winner’s circle yet.

Saturday, Mother Nature won out! This weekend, again we will be at Legendary Hilltop Speedway on Friday and will be at Skyline Speedway for the Harvest 50! So we hope to see you there!

This week, I want to give a shout out to Bill & Patty Welch (R.I.P.)! Although I did not know Bill & Patty personally, I displayed their names on our car, just like Brian Benson does on his sprint car, because of their son Phil Welch. Phil Welch (son) and Paula Hall (daughter) are friends of mine and we will continue to display their name to honor their parent’s memory. Thanks again for all of your support!

KJ Motorsports Update #20 Race #41 & #42

KJ Motorsports Update #20 Race #41 & #42

By: Kenny Johnson
Date: 09-16-13

Friday we went to Legendary Hilltop Speedway where Maddy Cooper ruined her streak of good pill draws. There were 24 cars there and she drew us the 24th spot. We started 6th in the 4th heat and with cautions falling at the right time, we managed to get the heat win to start us 4th in the feature. Front row was Andy Bond and Nick Corbitt and then Ronnie Mayle and me. On the first start, Nick jumped out front and we followed but a yellow flew before we got one lap complete. The 2nd start I pushed in turn one and again in turn 3. This opened the door for Andy Bond to move up a groove into 2nd. Andy and I raced side by side for almost the entire race. Andy got 2nd and we got 3rd, but it was a blast racing with Andy, whom I have raced against for years. It’s nice to race with someone you can trust their ability and know that if we get together it was truly an accident.

Saturday we went to Atomic Speedway where they had 26 cars or so. Coop drew our pill this time, but he didn’t do much better than Maddy. We started 5th in the first heat and went on to get the heat win and that started us on the pole of the feature beside Rob Stambaugh. On the first start we took the early lead off of turn 2, but Rob broke a ball joint and on the next restart, Jeremy Berwanger started outside. We raced side by side til turn 4, Jeremy was able to pull into the lead. Jeremy ran the preferred line and we could only provide little pressure. But just past halfway there was a caution and I drove up on top of the cushion to see how it was. I didn’t think it was too bad and it took me a couple of laps to figure out how to maneuver the car up there and we were able to make a pass in lap traffic. But a yellow flag would come out and put us back in 2nd. With 2 to go I went to the high side again and this time Jeremy hit the cushion off of turn 2 and his car bounced sideways. I shot down off the cushion and got to the inside of Jeremy as we rubbed all the way down the back chute, Jeremy had the preferred line coming off of turn 4 and I was unable to put any real pressure on him for the last lap. It was a good race and fun for the fans, but a win sure would have been nice! This weekend, again we will be at Legendary Hilltop Speedway on Friday and Atomic Speedway! I think both nights are paying $1,200 to win. So we hope to see you there! This week, I want to give a shout out to ALL OF MY FANS! I am so blessed to have the fan base that I do. My fans share their appreciation in what I do on the track and sometimes their appreciation is greater than getting a win. Although, I’d like to get both at the same time. But their support for those nights I don’t get a win, really does mean a lot to me and I appreciate all of them! Thanks again for all of your support!

KJ Motorsports Update #19 Race #37, #38, #39 & #40

KJ Motorsports Update #19
Race #37, #38, #39 & #40
By: Kenny Johnson
Date: 09-09-13

Friday, Aug. 23rd we went to Skyline Speedway where we won our heat race but didn’t fair too well in the feature. We faded back to a 7th place finish. Was pretty disappointed, for the car just wasn’t responding well.Saturday, Aug. 24th we went to Ohio Valley Speedway, where again we won our heat race, but finished a disappointing 5th place. Again the car seemed to be stagnant.Thursday, Aug. 29th we went to WVMS and they had 60 some cars. They broke us up into 2 groups and we were 3rd fast time in our group, which we were pretty happy with that. But they inverted the top 3 in each heat, so that put us starting 3rd in the 6th heat. We didn’t make it a full lap until we got caught up in a wreck in turn 3. It was an extremely hard hit with the outside while, which not only ended our night, it ended our weekend, for the car was too tore up to get going again. Not just for the weekend, but for the season. We started tearing the old one apart on Friday and started on the new one on Saturday. . . I want to thank those that helped get the new car going and those that offered up a ride until we got going again. It sure was tough setting out the rest of the weekend, but sometimes you just have to step back.Saturday, Sept. 7th we went to the Valley with the new car. We started 4th in the heat and finished 3rd. This started us 9th in the feature and we finished 6th. Car drove really good, just didn’t have any drive. So we will get some things changed around on it this week and see if we can find something for this weekend.

This weekend, we will be at Legendary Hilltop Speedway on Friday and Atomic Speedway (formerly K-C Speedway) for their re-opening! So we hope to see you there! This week, I want to give a shout out to Tim Cooper and his family for all of his hard work and dedication he provides to KJ Motorsports. He gives up a lot of family time to help keep the race team going and does a lot for my family as well. Proud to call him a brother from a different mother!

KJ Motorsports Update #18 Race #36

KJ Motorsports Update #18 Race #36
By: Kenny Johnson
Date: 08-19-13

Friday, was graduation day at Parris Island and what an amazing thing to see. For those of us that have never been in the military, we really don’t have any idea what military folks go through to provide us our freedom and to see the transformation of a child to an adult go much quicker than normal. Pretty special time and I’m thankful I got to be a part of it. Saturday we went to I-77 Raceway Park where we set fast time and won the first heat to start us on the pole of the feature. We took the lead from the get go and I was thinking to myself about how good the car was handling. I changed my line going into turn one slightly, but let the car get too sideways and I tried to catch it, but it was too far gone and I looped it around all by myself. No one to blame but myself; wasn’t getting pressure from anyone; wasn’t doing anything stupid, like running the highside bouncing off the wall or anything. . . . Just made a huge mistake and cost us what would have potentially been a win. My apologies to all! This weekend, we will be at Skyline and Ohio Valley, so we hope to see you there! This week, I want to give a shout out to my racetrack Mom, Sarah Bond! I called her Mom for several years and she treated me like one of her very own! I always made it a point to go see her in the stands and get my hug and allow her to harass me. She was a diehard racer and her kids carry that same trait. This weekend is the Sarah Bond “Big 3” paying $2,000 to win for each class. Many names will stand throughout the Mid-Ohio Valley, but most of those names are racecar drivers. But Sarah “Mom” Bond will be a name that will be remembered by many in the racing community. Love ya Mom Bond!

KJ Motorsports Update #17 Race #34 & #35

KJ Motorsports Update #17 Race #34 & #35
By: Kenny Johnson
Date: 08-12-13

Friday, Mother Nature kind of looked like she was going to win out. But yet once again, Legendary Hilltop managed to get their show in. It turned out they had a good crowd and a decent car count. Maddy Cooper drew us pill #11, to start us on the outside pole of heat #4. We went on to get the win to start us 4th in the feature. Tyler Evans and Nick Corbitt was on the front row and Roy Roush started 3rd and we started 4th. Nick took the early lead, with Tyler in 2nd and us in 3rd. Roy eventually passed us off of turn 4 and Tyler passed Nick. So we were running how we started until, with one lap to go, Nick blew an engine. It was a judgement call by the flagman to throw the yellow to bring out a green/checkered restart. They threw the gree off of turn 4 and I took to my normal high line entering turn one. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Tyler and Roy had gotten together, allowing me to take the lead and taking the checkered flag. I believe Tyler came in 3rd and Roy came in 6th. I was kind of dumbfounded and truly never expected to get the win, for we just wasn’t quite fast enough. But, you never say never in racing and anything can happen. That gave us win #11 on the season.Saturday we went to Ohio Valley Speedway, where we saw a huge crowd and a few people from work came down as well. Maddy again drew us a great pill to start us on the pole of heat #1. We won the heat race and had to redraw. Maddy got us a 3rd starting spot for the feature. Tyler Evans took the lead from Andy Bond and we ran 3rd behind Andy. I was starting to put pressure on Andy, when he had a left rear flat. This moved us into 2nd and we put pressure on Tyler. We owned the high side and he ran the middle and we raced side by side for several laps. It wasn’t going to be a guaranteed win by any means, but we were in a good position to make it a crowd pleaser for sure. But with 2 laps to go, our left rear tire went flat, giving us a DNF. Tyler went on to get the win. He is definitely going to be one to reckon with in the future.I won’t be around on Friday, for I will be at Parris Island watching Lexi graduate and become a United States Marine. Saturday we are still undecided, so watch Kenny Johnson Motorsports on Facebook and Coop will keep you posted. So, we hope to see ya there! This week, I want to give a shout out to my church family at Lubeck Community Baptist Church. What a joy it has been to receive the word from Pastor Mark Houser and to be able to open up and share with all that are there. If any of you are looking for a church family, stop by Lubeck Community Baptist Church and join in on the fun!

KJ Motorsports Update #16 Race #31, #32 & #33

KJ MotorsportsUpdate #16Race #31, #32 & #33
By: Kenny Johnson
Date: 08-09-13

Friday, 7/26/13 we were at Skyline Speedway for the 5th Annual Greg Schilling Memorial Race. 52 cars were on hand to make up 6 heat races and 3 consolation race and the 30 lap feature. We were able to set fast time with a 13.91 to start on the pole alongside Jes Hartman. We took the lead going down the back chute, but wound up running 3rd by the time we got to the flagstand. I hadn’t changed the car at all after qualifying and I should have. We past our way back to 2nd to put us starting 7th in the feature. We made our way to 4th and raced Kevin Morehouse for several laps for 3rd. Finally made the pass and was following leader Anthony Kincaid and 2nd place Jeremy Berwanger. We were all 3 running the low groove when we started making our way into lap traffic. That’s when I hit the high side and passed both leaders off of turn two. But as we got down into turn 3 we came up on a lap car. I made a decision to check up and turn down under the lap car. We made contact and our car ramped into the air, but was able to keep going. The lap car wound up stopping in the infield causing a yellow. This put us back in 3rd for the restart. Green came out and again I went to the high side and passed for 2nd down the back chute and was alongside the leader at the flagstand, but yet another caution put us back in 3rd. On the next restart I knew Jeremy was going high, so I opted to go low and follow the leader. Jeremy would get the lead a lap later and I seemed to be struggling with the handling of our car from the impact with the lap car. We wound up 4th, with Jeremy Berwanger taking the win, Anthony Kincaid 2nd and Rick Aukland 3rd. All in all, was real happy with the race itself, crowd was huge and would call it a successful race. Also want to acknowledge that this night was also the Jack Shutts Memorial Race for the late models.

Saturday we went to Jackson County Speedway in Jackson, Oh for $1,000 to win. They had 19 cars and they went to pill draw due to potential weather concerns. This started us 5th in the heat and we got behind someone that made it difficult to pass and we finished 5th, starting us 13th in the feature. The car was really good, but was just a tough track to pass on. We made it to 7th and was still making progress when the checkered fell. Jenni Cook was in this weekend from Florida to race with us all weekend. It was her first time getting to see me race in person and was glad she made it up. She is a huge help promoting our racing team and I appreciate all she does.

Friday, 8/2/13 we went to Beckley Speedway, where we set 4th fastest time to start us on the outside pole of heat one. We went on to win the heat to start us on the pole of the feature beside Mike Duncan. Mike took the initial lead and we followed closely. We took the middle line, while he was on the high line. We could get our nose up to his door in the corners, but could not get in the gas exiting the corners for Mike had the preferred line. But then I made a mistake. Exiting turn 2 as he pulled by me, I picked the throttle up and the car went up the track and I just seemed to get sucked into the back chute wall. It caught the right front and the right rear. The right rear got the worse of it. It destroyed the right front wheel and tire, the right rear wheel and tire, both right side 4 bars, right rearend tube and axle, driveshaft, shifters, the “x” in the frame, front motor mount, right rear brake line, right rear shock. . . .do I need to go on. I’ll admit, I’ve had worse, but not in a long while. Damage was too much to fix in one day, so we did not race on Saturday. Roger Ledbetter and Roger Thompson both made their first trip with us and got to experience the agony of defeat. This week we plan to go to Legendary Hilltop Speedway on Friday and Saturday we will be at Ohio Valley Speedway. So, we hope to see ya there!

This week, I want to give a shout out to Jack Shutts. Jack had done many roles at the area racetracks, from flagman to scorer to announcer to pit steward to race director. I had known Jack since I was a youngster and had seen him and my dad argue with one another. But then again dad argued with many. . . LOL But Jack was a friend of the family for years and his family was also our friends. I respected Jack and his decisions that he made on and off the racetrack. I miss the big guy, but know he’s waiting to throw the checkered flag for me once again.

Update #14 Race #27, #28 & #29

Update #14 Race #27, #28 & #29
By: Kenny Johnson
Date: 07-16-13

Friday, July 5th we went to Legendary Hilltop Speedway where we set 3rd fast time. We started on the pole of the 3rd heat and led all but the last turn and were passed by Rich Michael. This started us 6th in the feature and we fell back to 8th or so, but fought our way back to a 5th place finish. I just missed the set up and the car didn’t perform well. I’ll take the blame for that. We got rained out at I-77 Speedway on July 6th. Friday, July 12th we went to Skyline where Coop drew his first bad pill over there this year. We started 7th in the heat but got the win to start us on the outside pole beside Roy Roush. Roy got the early lead by virtue of single file start due to 3 cautions before getting a lap in. But we managed to take the lead but I noticed that something was broke and it isn’t the first time either. We broke a left rear shock mount and kept the car from getting up on the bars the way it needed to. Jeremy Berwanger came from deep in the field and passed us to give us a 2nd place finish. We’ll take it, considering the car was not performing the way it should have. Saturday, July 13th we went to I-77 Speedway where we set fast time, won the 1st heat and started on the pole of the feature. We took the early lead and were running the bottom. But James Dennis found the high line and passed us. I went to the high line and we were just about as good as he was and had made a move a couple of times to pull alongside him coming off of turn 4. But in the end, James went on to get the win and we got another 2nd. I was really mad at myself for not taking the high line from the get go, but no one to blame but myself! This week we plan to go to Skyline on Friday and Saturday we will go to McCown’s Jackson County Speedway for $1,000 to win. So, we hope to see ya there!

This week, I want to give a shout out to T&L Consulting which is Tom and Pam Lemon and their family! They are avid race fans and great supporters of KJ Motorsports. T&L Consulting provides many things in the way of training needs or promoting. But most of all provide a great friendship! Thanks again for all of your support! Remember! KJ Motorsports Update #13 Race #26

KJ MotorsportsUpdate #13 Race #26

By: Kenny Johnson
Date: 07-02-13

First off, I want to thank those that sent prayers last week. Had a little medical issue on Monday of last week, that hopefully was a one time thing. All tests came back normal and I’ll do some follow up with my Dr. to see if there is something I need to do. Hopefully she won’t say that I need to eat vegetables. . . . LOL I also need to thank Tim Cooper, he worked in the garage all week long to get the car ready for the Schilling race. Don’t know what I would do without him. And I want to thank my wife for babysitting me all week and making sure I was doing the right things, which isn’t an easy task.We went to Skyline and hung out with the Schilling’s and McPherson’s until Mother Nature and Greg got together and decided to have a little funny and through down a ton of rain on us, but then it cleared up and the sun come out and we all trounced around in the mud, hoping we were good to go, but another rain hit and that finished us off and the race was cancelled. It is rescheduled for July 26th and it will also be the Jack Shutts Memorial. Saturday we went to Ohio Valley for their Topless race paying $1,200 to win. We set 3rd fastest time and started the pole of heat 3 beside Rod Sayre. Rod got the early lead and I went to the high side to make use of the cushion, but I got in pretty hard and got up on 2 wheels. When I came back down Robbie Evans passed me. We fought back to get 2nd but found out we had bent our lower right front control arm. Pill draw started us 6th in the feature and we moved into 3rd fairly early and was trying to race with the 2 leaders. I was trying multiple lines but I let the car get away from me off of turn 2 and I got sideways in front of the field. I just had to sit there and wait for the collision. This wreck knocked us out of the race and upon the first assessment I thought the old car was done for. But got it home and looked it over and I believe we are ok. Todd Lambiotte came over and got an early start on tearing it apart, then Coop, Brian Fox and myself got busy and got the car repaired and back together for this weekend! Our plans are to go to WV Motor Speedway on Wednesday night for $3,000 to win. Then Friday we will be at Skyline Speedway and Saturday at McCown’s Jackson County Speedway for the Dan Reno Memorial paying $2,222 to win. We hope to see you there!!!! This week, I want to give a shout out to my step son Shawn Blair. He is in the US Air Force and is transferring from Montana to Germany. He will be home with his wife Yana on July 3rd through the 11th. Kim is extremely excited to not only see Shawn, but to meet Yana in person. Looking for a good week with the family! Update #12 Race #24 & #25

Update #12 Race #24 & #25
By: Kenny Johnson Date: 06-24-13

Friday we went to Skyline where they had 24 cars. We started 4th in our heat and passed for the win on the last lap. This put us on the pole of the feature and we went on to get win #10 and that made us 5 in a row at Skyline. Saturday we headed down to the Valley with Jason Canepari’s car which is for sale. Pill draw started us 3rd in the heat race and we got the heat win. Coop’s pill draw started us 6th in the feature. We passed our way to 3rd but first and 2nd had a half a straight a way lead on us and we needed a caution to see if we had a shot at them. But we never got a yellow, so we had to settle for 3rd. It was a good car and I think it’s a winning car. Maybe we will get another opportunity to run it to help try and sell it. If anyone is interested, get a hold of me at 304-615-2899.This weekend we will be at Skyline on Friday for the Greg Schilling Memorial and Jackson County Speedway on Saturday for the Dan Reno Memorial. We hope to see you there!! This week, I want to give a shout out to the Greg Schilling Memorial Foundation! Greg was a fellow racer and a great friend who passed away too early from a battle with cancer. He was a great family man, who made me feel like part of his family. The Foundation that has been established by his siblings has made contributions to high school scholarships and also other families in need of funds for medical conditions and unfortunate circumstances. If you would like to donate, please contact me via e-mail at iamracing@yahoo.com for more details and we hope to see you at the 5th Annual Greg Schilling Memorial race this Friday at Skyline Speedway. Update #11 Race #22 & #23

Update #11Race #22 & #23
By: Kenny Johnson
Date: 06-17-13

Friday we went to Skyline & Coop is killing it on the pill draw this year. We started on the outside pole of heat #2 beside Booger Garnes (driving Nick Carr’s car) and we got the heat win. This started us on the outside pole beside JP Roberts. We battled JP for the first 2 or 3 laps until a caution came out. We got the lead and went green and had to battle some lap traffic until a caution with about 5 or 6 to go. We were able to hold on and get win #9. Saturday we went to Ohio Valley Speedway. Dustin Jarrett and his son Chase, along with his dad and Brother in law and his nephew Carson came down to watch some racing at the Valley. I asked Chase to draw my pill and he drew #11 to start us on the pole of heat #3. We went to the high side and got the heat win. At the Valley, the top 2 in each heat redraw for starting position, well Coop went and drew #1. We started on the pole beside Vince Conrad. Vince ran about ¾’s of the way up on the track and I was running the bottom. I could get up beside him, but he would pull back by with his momentum on the high side. I just didn’t have enough off the bottom. So I then decided to move up and follow him in hoping to dive in on the extreme high side. But Vince ran a line that did not allow me to get in. While doing this, Nick Corbitt was working the extreme low side and was working on passing us. So I went back to the bottom and still the same results with Vince. So I then tried to run the middle in hopes to get Vince to bobble, but he kept his line and managed to always pull ahead of us. But moving up to the middle allowed Nick to pass us and he was strong enough on the bottom to pass Vince. I continued to work on Vince, but never made the pass and we got a 3rd place finish. Disappointed with that and I’ll have to redeem myself when we go back this weekend. This weekend we will be at Skyline on Friday and Ohio Valley on Saturday. We hope to see you there!! This week, I want to give a shout out to Carr Auto Glass. Jeremy Carr has been doing this for a few years now and has a great reputation for providing quality work and great sevice. You can go to him or he can come to you. Check out his web site for more information and contact info. www.athens-autoglass.com ! Tell him I sent ya!

KJ Motorsports Update #10 Race #19, #20 & #21

KJ MotorsportsUpdate #10Race #19, #20 & #21

By: Kenny Johnson Date: 06-12-13

Friday (5/31) we went to Skyline, but Mother Nature had other plans and they had to cancel. Saturday (6/1) we went to I-77 Speedway where we had 4th fastest time and started outside pole of the heat. We took the lead, but our radiator mounts broke and the radiator fell back into the fan and destroyed the fan and radiator and we had to drop out. This would start us 16th in the feature and we managed to come to a 2nd place finish. Had a shot for the win, but I messed up coming to the white flag and drove it in too hard in turn 3 and choked. Although I should have been pleased with our 2nd place finish, I was kind of aggravated at myself for screwing up! Friday (6/7) we went back to Skyline Speedway & Coop drew us pill #16 to start us on the outside pole of heat #1 and we got the win. This started us on the pole of the feature and the track was slick and smooth. We took the early lead and never looked back. The car was really good in the slick and hope it continues. This made win #7. Saturday (6/8) we went to I-77 Speedway where we had 2nd fast time. We started on the pole of the heat beside Bruce Dennis. Bruce jumped out to the early lead and I was running hard to keep up with him and I spun out. I went to the tail and did come back to get a 3rd place finish to start us 6th in the feature. We passed our way to 2nd and worked on James Dennis for the lead. We got under James in 3 and 4 and James got his right rear in the slick and he spun out. It was building to be a good race. But once we got the lead we pulled away. But on the last lap coming off of turn 2 we broke a left rear axle and we limped it across the checkered to get win #8.This weekend brings us 4 nights of racing. We plan to be at Tyler County for a Renegades of Dirt show paying $1,200 to win, and we will be in Jason Canepari’s car that night. Friday we will be at Skyline, Saturday Ohio Valley Speedway and Sunday at West Virginia Motor Speedway for another Renegades of Dirt show. We hope to see you there! Friday morning we will be displaying our car at DERC (DuPont Employees Recreation Club) along with some other racers at Camp Crawdad. There will be several kids there and it should be a lot of fun! This week, I want to give a shout out to Kyle Jones & OVDTR.com. Kyle goes to all of the area race tracks and gives up his time to video the races and posts them on his web site. This is a lot of time and effort and if you have ever videoed before, you know he really don’t get to watch the races until he gets home and watches the tape. He will sell DVD’s of races, so contact him via his web site if you are interested! Thanks again for all of your support!Remember! To make this work, support those that support us! Update #9 Race #15, #16, #17 & #18

Update #9 Race #15, #16, #17 & #18
By: Kenny Johnson Date: 05-28-13

Friday (5/17) we went to Skyline Speedway’s season opener. They had 19 cars and Coop drew pill #30 which would start us 4th in the first heat. We went on to get the win to start us on the pole of feature beside Kyle Bond. Track was fast and rough. We took the early lead, but bobbled in turn 2 and had to battle Kyle Bond to get the lead back. Then later in the race Roy Roush passed us and we battled back to race Roy. As we got into lap traffic, Roy and I both entered turn 3 with me on the inside, Roy in the middle and 2 lapped cars up high. There wasn’t much room and a rough race track, Roy and I touched and Roy looped it. This gave is the lead, but with 2 to go, John Burdette started showing his nose and we put it to the top side and went on to get win #5. Saturday (5/18) we headed to Tyler County Speedway where they had 23 cars. We set 4th fastest time, but we didn’t know this until after we decided to change the set up. They invert the top 4 cars, so that started us 3rd in the 1st heat. On the first start, the pole setter jump started and that moved us to the pole. DJ Cline took the lead on the outside and we ran second until a caution and got passed to finish 3rd. This would start us 7th in the feature and we decided to change the set up back. We passed for 5th and a caution came out to put us back in 6th. On the restart, the car just wouldn’t come up to speed. I went high in turn 1 and let everyone go by and I pulled off the track. As it turned out, a huge dirt clod busted through my hood scoop and through my air cleaner and plugged my carburetor. I have never seen this happen before. So we got another DNF.Friday (5/24) we went back to Skyline Speedway and they had 15 cars. Coop drew us pill #12 to start us on the outside pole of heat #2 and we got the win. This started us on the outside pole of the feature and the track was slick and smooth. We took the early lead by running the middle. But after a few laps Andy Bond started working the bottom and passed us. I then turned to the bottom and worked on passing him back. We made the pass and went on to get win #6 for the year.Saturday and Sunday (5/25 & 5/26) we went to Tyler County Speedway for Let It Ride 55, paying $7,555 to win. They had 57 cars and they did group qualifying. In our group, we didn’t fair too well and we qualified 10th fastest. This would start us 5th in the 2nd heat and they were taking 3 to the feature. We would move into 4th pretty quick, but the car had no drive off the corner. I decided to move up on the track on a restart and that would prove to be wrong and we got passed to give us a 5th place finish. We started 4th in the B-main and they were taking 2 to the big show. We changed numerous things on the car to try and get it better. It must have worked, because we won the B-main to start us 19th in the feature. The track had a rough spot in it in turns 3 & 4. Before taking the green, I kind of powered through it to see how much it was going to upset the car. Well, it broke our right front shock. I dove off the track to try and get it changed. But we weren’t fast enough and they started the race. I was disappointed, not in that I thought we could win it, but I wanted to race and see just how far we could have advanced. A race like that, you just never know. . . . .This Friday we plan to go to Skyline on Friday and see if we can make it 3 in a row and on Saturday we’ll plan to go to I-77 Speedway, we hope to see you there! This week, I want to give a shout out to Alexis Howell for serving our country in the United States Marine Corp and all other men and women in service. Her brother Shawn is currently serving in the United States Air Force and is due home for a short visit in July before shipping out to Germany. Thanks again for all of your support! Remember! KJ Motorsports Update #8 Race #14

KJ Motorsports Update #8 Race #14
By: Kenny Johnson
Date: 05-13-13

Friday, Mother Nature was the big winner. Saturday we had our going away party at the garage for Lexi. Thanks to Todd Lambiotte and Tim Cooper for helping to get the party set up. Also thanks to Keith Emrick for an awesome tribute banner! Saturday night we headed to McCown’s Jackson County Speedway where Mother Nature provided the track prep. We set 4th fast time out of 29 cars. This put us on the outside pole of the heat race beside Roy Roush. We finished 2nd and this would put us starting 4th. It was a tight battle for a while, but once Roy took the lead, he took off and left Tanner Wilson, Travis Dickson and myself to battle for 2nd place. Travis wound up 2nd and we got 3rd. I am missing something on my set up that has us a bit off. But it appears everyone is a bit off with their set up when Roy is there. He is definitely on a roll! I was also asked to drive the #427 Helterbran/Adams street stock ride. We started outside pole of the 2nd heat and was driving away with the win until. . . . . . . I thought the race was over. . . . . (I deserve whatever harassing I get) I let off the gas off of turn two and was coasting down the back chute and almost went off the track until I saw the 2nd place car go flying by me and I noticed the yellow light was not on. I looked over to the front chute and saw the flagman getting ready to show us 1 lap to go. . . .I got 2nd and expected to be fired. But they gave me a mulligan. They made a couple of adjustments to the car and we started 4th in the feature. By the time we passed for 2nd Davey Akers had a several car length lead and we finished 2nd. Now maybe, just maybe if I wouldn’t have screwed up in my heat and would have started front row of the feature, I might have won the feature for them. But instead my bonehead move cost us a win! Hopefully I’m not fired! Thanks to the #427 team for allowing me to drive it! For those that want to see this past Saturday’s racing can go to youtube and in search, type in StreetStockGirl and start looking for the May 11 date and you see some great videos. This week I am uncertain where we will be racing. I suggest going to facebook “kenny johnson motorsports” and Coop will let you know later in the week. Wherever we go, we hope to see you there! This week, I want to give a shout out to Poske’s Performance Parts and all guys and gals that work there. KJ Motorsports Update #7 Race #12 & #13

KJ MotorsportsUpdate #7Race #12 & #13

By: Kenny Johnson Date: 05-10-13

Sorry for the late update, I’ll just say I’ve been BUSY, VERY BUSY. . . LOL. Friday we went to Midway Speedway for $1,200 to win. I’ll say the Perine family has really cleaned that place up and it looks as though the fan support is tremendous. Jerry and family are making an effort and learning each and every week. Track was a little on the slick side, but it was that way for everyone. We chased our car all night long, every time we came off the track. We were 9th fastest out of 22 cars, started 3rd in our heat and battled for the win with Matt Holcomb, only to finish 2nd. Started 6th in the feature and fell as far back as 8th. We never gave up and manage to pass our way back to a 4th place finish. I was pleased to get 4th, but sure wasn't satisfied with it. We have to get better the next time we go back to Midway.Saturday we went back to I-77 Speedway where their car count was a little off. We were 3rd fastest and really struggled in the heat to get a 2nd place finish. We decided to try a set up change we had never tried before. It proved to us as to why we have never tried it. We fell to 4th, but battled our way to a 2nd place finish to Doug Henry who picked up his first win of the year. The track was not prepared very well at all and was even dusty for not only the fans but the drivers as well. Sure hope they improve soon. This week we plan to go to Legendary Hilltop Speedway on Friday and McCown’s Jackson County Speedway for $1,000 to win. We hope to see you there! Saturday we are having a “going away party” for Lexi who will be leaving for the Marines on May 20th. Her brother Shawn is currently in the Air Force, stationed in Montana and will be transferring to Germany this summer. Please keep both of them in your thoughts and prayers.

This week, I want to give a shout out to Jenni Cook. Jenni has done quite a bit of behind the scenes type stuff around promoting KJ Motorsports and obtaining sponsorship. She is also working on a newly revised web site. So be watching for that in the near future! Thanks Jenni for your help!!!!! Remember! To make this work, support those that support us! Update #6 Race #10

By: Kenny Johnson

Date: 04-29-13

Friday we went back to Legendary Hilltop Speedway & they had 19 modifieds. Coop drew us pill #16 to start us on the outside pole of heat #3, in which we got the win to start us 3rd in the feature behind Roy Roush and Robbie Evans. I had made a spring change before the feature which proved to NOT be the thing to do. We were up to 2nd and fell back to finish 4th. The set up was totally off and it was my fault.Saturday I went thru the car and scaled it back to the baseline and we headed to I-77, where they had 15 cars. We set fast time with a 14.36. We started on the pole of heat one and we won the heat to start us on the pole of the feature beside Jeremy Berwanger. We battled side by side for the first several laps, but his high side momentum eventually won out. So when I went to the high side, he chose low in one and two. I could get a run off of turn two, but couldn’t get a pass on him. On a restart with 4 to go, I dove under him entering turn one and he washed up off of turn two that gave me just enough of a run to beat him into turn 3 to get to the highside. We went on to get win #4. Dad was able to go this night and got down there just in time to get his picture taken in victory lane! I give Maddy Cooper the credit for the win, since she picked where we were racing this past Saturday. But of course if Mother Nature would have showed up and rained us out, she would have gotten the blame for that too. . . . LOLThis weekend, we will be going to Skyline Speedway on Friday and back to I-77 Speedway on Saturday. We hope to see you there! This week, I want to give a shout out to Zemba Bros. out of Zanesville, OH. Scott Zemba and company does excavating for land prep and also does utility service. KJ MotorsportsUpdate #5Race #7, #8 & #9

KJ MotorsportsUpdate #5Race #7, #8 & #9

By: Kenny Johnson Date: 04-24-13

Friday we went to Legendary Hilltop Speedway & they had 14 modifieds even though most people thought they would not be able to race due to the rain that fell on Friday. Coop drew pill #6 to start us outside pole in the second heat race. We managed to get a win to start us on the outside pole of the feature beside Kyle Bond. We got the early lead and were taking the high line. Coop was showing that 2nd place was keeping close and that was Roy Roush. We got into lap traffic and unfortunately Roy got caught up in wreck with 2 laps to go. We went on to get win #3 of the season.Saturday we were supposed to go to Ohio Valley Speedway but they cancelled for weather, so we went to I-77 Speedway where they had 21 cars. Kenny Compton set fast time with a 14.84 and we were 2nd fast with a 14.88. We started the pole of our heat and won it and started the outside pole of the feature beside Kenny Compton. He got the jump on me and he decided he was going to take the high line going into turn one. I decided to let him have it and he went in so hard that he looped it in front of the entire field. I was going to miss him, but Bruce Dennis was not able to get slowed up in time and caught me in the left rear wheel, which broke our j-bar and then it chucked a driveshaft and then that tore other stuff up. Was pretty disappointed in not being able to run the feature, for that gave us our 3rd DNF of the year.We thrashed on the car Saturday night when we got home and then again after church so that we could go to West Virginia Motor Speedway for $2,000 to win. They had 36 cars with some pretty heavy hitters. To be honest I was thinking that getting a 5th would be an accomplishment with the competition that was there. But each time we come off the track we made changes and the car kept getting better. We set 9th fastest time and they invert 4 in the heat races, so we started outside pole. We went on to win the heat and we started outside pole of the feature beside Rick Aukland. I knew Rick would be tough to beat, but we got him off of turn two and stretched our lead out a bit under a long green flag run. But as we continued to go, it was apparent, either I was getting slower or he was getting faster and it was probably a bit of both for we went softer on tires and he went harder and in the end we finished 2nd. I was very happy and pleased at how well our car and engine performed against some tough competitors. I’ll definitely be taking some notes and when we go back, hope to perform well again. This weekend, we will be going to Legendary Hilltop Speedway on Friday and to I-77 Speedway on Saturday. We hope to see you there! This week, I want to give a shout out to JS Enterprises of Beverly, OH. Joe Schilling and crew will provide you quality work and great prices for all your construction and building needs. Joe built our “garage mahaul”. Update #4 Race #5 & #6

KJ Motorsports
Update #4
Race #5 & #6

By: Kenny Johnson Date: 04-15-13

Friday we returned to Legendary Hilltop Speedway where they had 23 modifieds. I drew pill #46 to start us 6th in the second heat race. We managed to get a win to start us on the outside pole of the feature beside Bruce Dennis. We jumped into the early lead and was running on the low side. After a few green flag laps, Roy Roush started showing his nose on the outside and was actually making a pass on me. But a caution flew and on the restart, I thought I’d give the high side a try (even though I’m known as a catfish, LOL) and the groove up high provided some more traction and we went on to get win #2 over Roy Roush.
Saturday we went to McCown’s Jackson County Speedway for $1,000 to win and they had 25 cars. Maddy Cooper went with us and drew us pill #49 to start us dead last in the heat in 9th place. We managed to race our way to a 3rd place finish, which would start us 7th in the feature. I felt like we had a good car and was pleased to be able to start as far up as 7th. The groove and Jackson has typically become a bottom groove track, but I was able to make a few passes running the middle and we passed our way to a 3rd place finish while racing Jess Hartman for 2nd when the checkered fell. Of course would have liked to have won, but was happy to get 3rd and to take what the car and track gave me.
This weekend we plan to go back to Legendary Hilltop Speedway on Friday, Saturday we’ll be at Ohio Valley Speedway and Sunday after church we’ll be heading to West Virginia Motor Speedway, providing we survive Friday and Saturday. We hope to see you there!
This week, I want to give a shout out to Schilling Truss & Building Materials of Beverly, OH. Jeff Schilling and crew will provide you some great pricing and quality work and quality materials for all your building needs. Jeff built the trusses for our “garage mahaul”. Give them a call at 740-984-2396 and tell them I sent ya!

Update #3 Race #3 & #4

KJ Motorsports
Update #3
Race #3 & #4

By: Kenny Johnson Date: 04-08-13
Friday we went to opening night at the Legendary Hilltop Speedway where they had 19 modifieds. I drew pill #26 to start us 3rd in the 2nd heat. We moved into 2nd right away and pressured Wade Benjamin for the lead. After several hard laps of racing we were able to make the pass and get the heat win to start us on the outside pole of the feature. The car didn’t seem to be handling just right, so we made a change. At the start of the feature we beat Mark into turn 1, but our car pushed up and allowed Mark to take the lead. We got a couple of laps in before a yellow would fly. On the next restart, Mark pulled me off of 4 but I got a run on him entering turn 1. Mark was trying to keep his car on the bottom and he slowed up. I got into the turn too hard and hit the brakes to hard and stalled the engine and spun. Yep, 2nd time this year I have done that. We were charged with the caution as I should have been and went to the tail. We worked our way back up to 8th or so, before acquiring a flat tire that sent us to the pits for our 2nd DNF of the year. Was pretty disappointed in myself and determined that it is best to settle down and take what the car and the track gives me and quit trying to do more than that. Now all that sounds good, the real story will be if I can actually do that!!!!
Saturday we went to Ohio Valley Speedways season opener and they had 20 mods. They had a huge crowd and a good car count. I again drew us pill #26 and that started us 4th in the 2nd heat. We had fallen as far back as 6th at one point, but battled back to get a 2nd place finish. Getting us a 2nd, put us in the pill draw for the feature line up. We drew a #6 and that was good enough to put us on the outside pole alongside 14 year old Tyler Evans. We beat Tyler off of turn 2 and took the lead. The race was full of cautions and we held off charges from Roy Roush and late in the race from Kenny Riddle. I was very happy to pick up our first win of the year and hoping to continue to get better each week.
This weekend we plan to go back to Legendary Hilltop Speedway on Friday and to McCown’s Jackson County speedway for $1,000 to win. We hope to see you there!
This week, I want to give a shout out to Steve Balderson Construction. If you are in need of concrete work, Steve is your guy. He did my “garage mahaul” and no job is too big nor too small. So don’t hesitate to give him a call for an estimate at 304-481-2484

Update #2 Race #2

KJ Motorsports
Update #2
Race #2

By: Kenny Johnson                                                                                              Date: 04-01-13

Saturday we went back to McCown’s Jackson County Speedway for race #2. Coop drew pill #14 to start us 4th in heat race #1. At the drop of the green flag, Tyler Evans who started on the pole got to turn #1 first and Bruce Dennis, who started on the outside pole was turning down into the inside lane behind Tyler, but I was already committed and I hit Bruce in the door causing myself and him to spin. A few other cars were collected but they said on the raceceivers that it would be a complete restart. But they pulled Bruce aside and credited him for the caution. From my viewpoint, I don’t think Bruce would have spun if I wouldn’t have gotten into him and really thought it would be a complete restart, but I was wrong. That moved us to the outside pole and we went on to get the heat win, starting us on the pole of the feature with Wade Benjamin on the outside pole and Roy Roush and Mark Dickson in row 2. We jumped out to the early lead but after just a few laps I saw I was having oil pressure issues and I finally had to shut it down. I’m looking into what the problem may be and hopefully can fix the problem by swapping out my pump. If not, we’ll be swapping engines out. Car was good, just needed a little luck.

This weekend we plan to go to the Legendary Hilltop Speedway for the season opener on Friday and on Saturday we will be going to Ohio Valley Speedway for their season opener. We hope to see you there!

Please keep my dad and his family in your prayers for his sister Jewell McClanahan passed away Saturday morning. Also prayers are needed for my mom’s bro-in-law for he is dealing with some health issues. His name is Roger Parsons. It is much appreciated.

On another note, 2 people I know have went to Coughlin Cars.com and told them they were there because they saw their name on my racecar. Both of them were given such a good deal that they both bought a new vehicle and drove over 70 miles to get it because the price was so much better than the local car lots. So if you are looking for a vehicle, new or used, go to Coughlincars.com of Chillicothe to see what kind of deal you can get!

Race #1

KJ Motorsports
Race #1

By: Kenny Johnson Date: 03-25-13

Well, the season has officially started, but first let me introduce this years sponsors cause it wouldn’t be possible without them.

K-Graphics, Schilling Truss, JS Enterprises, Zemba Bros., Coughlin Cars.com, GP&S, Steve Balderson Construction, Sheet Metal Local 33, Octane Race Products, Poske’s Performance Parts, Out-Pace Race Products, Hypercoils, T&L Consulting, Carr Auto Glass, OVDTR, Hall’s Auto Repair, Billy Joe & Wanda Hammett, Bill & Patty Welch, Keyser Mfg., Shaw Race Cars, TSM Enhanced, Bazell Race Fuels, Hoosier, Aero Wheels, Wrisco Aluminum, Lubeck Community Baptist Church, Iglesia Bautista Jehova Yireh, Willy’s Carburetor’s, KSE Pumps, KRC.

Saturday we headed to McCown’s Jackson County Speedway where 20 mods showed up. Weather did not seem as cold as expected and track was in pretty fair shape considering we were starting at 4 in the afternoon. Coop drew us pill #23 which started us outside 2nd row behind Tyler Evans and beside his dad Robbie Evans. Track became a one groove track in the heat race and the outside lane was not favorable. I fell back to 5th or 6th before getting to the bottom. I rooted my way back to 2nd behind Robbie Evans and even passed him off of turn two but a yellow came out and put me back behind him. Robbie knew to stay tight on the bottom, so I opted to try a different line letting the car swing out to the wall down the straight a ways and then diving in on the bottom trying to get my nose inside of him. But as I entered turn 3 I got in a little too hard and had to hit my brakes hard. In doing so, I stalled the engine and caused the field to behind me to bounce off of me like a pin ball. Went to the tail with just a lap to go and finished 5th. I guess my instinct to not “settle” took over and was trying too hard for a race that didn’t pay anything. This started me 14th in the feature and it was back to rootin on the bottom. We were able to make it back to a 5th place finish which is where we would have started if I hadn’t screwed up in the heat race! Lesson learned I guess! There was a few passes early running thru the middle, but most of the passing was right on the bottom. I got caught up in a couple of wrecks in the feature and needless to say the car is beat from one end to the other. I guess I’ll be making some new body panels this week! Thanks to Tim and Chad for all their help at the garage and at the track.

I was asked to drive Dave Landman’s street stock in the feature. They only had 7 cars and I had to start the tail. We drove to 2nd behind Jamey Adams and Jamey and I raced hard and clean, but I fell short and Jamey got the win and we got 2nd. Jamey build Dave’s car and it was really fast. Very impressed with it and I appreciate Dave allowing me to drive his car, especially after he saw what mine looked like after the modified feature. LOL

At this time, if all goes well and Mother Nature allows it, we’ll be back to McCown’s Jackson County Speedway this Saturday and give it another try!
If you get a chance, check out OVDTR.com and you’ll see the feature race for both the late models and modifieds.
