Race #4

Friday night we went to skyline for their season opener. They had 26 cars and Kim drew me pill #3. This started me on the pole of the 3rd heat. We went on to win the heat race, so we started 3rd in the feature. Booger Garnes started on the pole, Ricky Venham on the outside pole. Ricky took the early lead and I raced Booger for 2nd for several laps. I finally made it past Booger and had to chase down Ricky. I caught Ricky and with 2 laps to go we were side by side. After we took the white flag I passed him going down the back chute. I entered turn 3 and 4 on the bottom and as I came off of 4 I was still ahead of Ricky. But as I went down the front chute I was in the gas a little too hard and spun my tires and this allowed Ricky to pull up beside me just as we crossed the checkered flag. Ricky beat me by just a bumper. It made for a good race for the fans, but 2nd isn’t the position I wanted, but it is better than 3rd. Congrats to Ricky and team, for he drives a Canepari Chassis, built by Jason Canepari who also works out of our shop.
All of Saturday’s racing got rained out. So next weekend we plan to go to K-C Speedway on Friday and Saturday. They are paying $1,000 to win on Friday and $2,000 to win on Saturday. We hope to see you there! On a sad note, Keith Emrick of K-Graphics mother-in-law passed away Thursday night. Please keep Keith and Connie in your prayers.

Update #5

Race #3

Friday nights racing was cancelled due to Mother Nature. So we headed to the Valley for their season opener. Unfortunately their car count was low. They only had 5 modifieds. Now besides myself, 3 of the 4 other drivers were past champions and feature winners at Ohio Valley. With the low car count, we decided to skip a heat race and just line up and run a feature. We started 3rd in the feature and took the lead a couple of laps into it. A positive was the car was working extremely well. Prior to the race, Billy Joe and Wanda Hammett had donated $100 to both the late model and modified feature. So by winning, we got an extra $100 to our feature win.
I’d like to thank 2 Brother’s Motorsports, K-Graphics, H&S Construction, Larry Shaw Race Cars, and Balderson Construction for all of their support.
Next week we plan to go to Skyline on Friday and Eastside Speedway in Virginia for a Road Warrior Tour Race. We hope to see you there! Remember! To make this work, support those that support us!

Race #2

Saturday we went to K-C for the first AMRA Road Warrior Tour race. They had 52 cars and they did group qualifying. We set fast time in our group and we also set 4th fastest time out of the 52. We sat on the pole of the 3rd heat race and took the lead going into turn 1. But I allowed the car to get a throttle push and it pushed all the way turn 2 which let 3 cars pass me by. I battled my way back to 3rd and was working on 1st and 2nd until I got a right front flat. This forced me to start 13th in the B-main and they were only taking 2. I managed to get 2nd, which transferred us into the 20th and last starting spot. The first half of the race I somewhat laid back, not pushing the car for I did not want to overheat my tires. But the last half I opened it up and we fought our way to a 4th place finish. I acquired some new fans from the Chillicothe area for the run we had. But I also acquired an enemy or two as well. In the consi I was bound and determined to get to a top 2 finish to put us in the feature. I ran high and low passing whenever I could. But this one instance I slid up in front of JP Roberts and like me, he was racing hard as well and I caused him to ramp over my right rear and then he hit the wall tearing his car up. I did not intentionally mean to tear anyone up. I can’t make an excuse for it, but an apology doesn’t fix someone’s car. When I race hard like I do, 9 times out of 10 the car I tear up is my own, but this time it was someone else’s. We’ll see what next week brings.
Next week will be the opening nights for Skyline on Friday and Ohio Valley on Saturday and we plan to be at both. We hope to see you there!

Race #: 1

04 Apr 2010

Date: 4-4-10 We went to Tyler County Speedway for their season opener. They had 17 mods and I drew a #14 to start us on the outside pole of the 2nd heat. When they threw the green I stood on the gas and spun my tires and got a horrible start. A yellow occurred and it was a complete restart. So this time I gradually applied the gas pedal and seemed to maintain with the pole setter. But the pole setter was crowding me up the track and we rubbed on one another up the front chute, but it caused me to spin sideway in front of the field. Unfortunately we gave Mike McPherson no where to go. He was able to finish the race, but we broke and upper control arm. Fixed what we could and started 17th in the feature. Worked our way up to 7th place and I thought the car was coming on good, until we got a right rear flat. We got a DNF and were paid for 12th. Not the way to start the year, but we’ll be back out again next weekend.
Next Saturday we’ll be heading to K-C Speedway for the first Road Warrior Tour race. Hope to see you there.
